Simply Fun!

Many times we think when it comes to having fun we have to spend money. We may go shopping, or out to dinner to have a nice time. Most of us live affluent lives, and I think this is why we have forgotten how to enjoy and have fun the nice and simple way.

Ahmed had gone in to work today, the usual 9am-5pm. I spent the day taking my Al Huda classes online. I had the patio door open during class and Isra would go in and out and enjoy the beautiful weather. Watching her enjoy the warm wind blow against her face made me realize how enjoyable nature is!

I hurried to the kitchen after class. And whipped up some great healthy Shrimp and Poblano Pepper Quesadillas along with some fresh homemade mango salsa. I took out the picnic basket and packed it with the food I had prepared. I also threw in some oranges for a healthy dessert. And I filled up a thermos with a delicious smoothie (Vanilla soy milk, chocolate protein, and a banana).

Food was ready to go, now I had to get ready and get my little Isra ready as well. Just as we were finishing up Ahmed came home, and was surprised at us being ready. He was wondering what the plans were and I told him it was a surprise. I grabbed the basket and a blanket to sit on and told Ahmed we were headed towards the pond near our home for a dinner picnic!

I’d have to say the three of us had such a wonderful time, sitting under a tree, enjoying the food Allah has blessed us with. It was so peaceful and relaxing. As women who are primarily at home we are the ones who need to take an initiative to make creative plans to keep life fun and exciting for the family without putting a hole in the pocket. So next time you want to kick it up a notch pack up dinner and head outdoors!

Traditionally one tries to find a job after they graduate from college. It is the next accomplishment after attaining a degree. I chose to take a different route…

I think it is a blessing that I can stay home and take care of Isra and things that need to be done at home. It is wonderful to be able to do things you have always wanted to do whenever you want to do them, and not be chained down to a 9-5 job. I am not sure why some people look down upon moms who stay at home.

Now I do have to say that there are two different types of housewives. There is the one type that does bare minimum- cooks, cleans, and takes care of the kids. I feel like this type of housewife gets tired of her tasks and gets depressed of her life as a housewife. Then you have the other type of housewife, the professional housewife, the housewife redefined as I like to put it. This type of housewife is the go getter. She uses all parts of her brain and isn’t a robot trying to finish daily chores. She not only cooks, cleans, and takes care of the kids, but she also is involved in things she enjoys and wants to do. She multi-tasks and uses her time efficiently through great time management. This kind of homemaker always has goals she’d like to meet, to improve herself as well as her family.

So don’t think just because you are a housewife you have no purpose in life. Housewives play an important role in raising and nurturing good children and families. And most importantly they help build their family on a strong Islamic foundation.

I will be writing future posts that will explain the different aspects a housewife is involved in from home finances to ways to maintain your well-being. Stay Tuned!
