Many times we think when it comes to having fun we have to spend money. We may go shopping, or out to dinner to have a nice time. Most of us live affluent lives, and I think this is why we have forgotten how to enjoy and have fun the nice and simple way.
Ahmed had gone in to work today, the usual 9am-5pm. I spent the day taking my Al Huda classes online. I had the patio door open during class and Isra would go in and out and enjoy the beautiful weather. Watching her enjoy the warm wind blow against her face made me realize how enjoyable nature is!
I hurried to the kitchen after class. And whipped up some great healthy Shrimp and Poblano Pepper Quesadillas along with some fresh homemade mango salsa. I took out the picnic basket and packed it with the food I had prepared. I also threw in some oranges for a healthy dessert. And I filled up a thermos with a delicious smoothie (Vanilla soy milk, chocolate protein, and a banana).
Food was ready to go, now I had to get ready and get my little Isra ready as well. Just as we were finishing up Ahmed came home, and was surprised at us being ready. He was wondering what the plans were and I told him it was a surprise. I grabbed the basket and a blanket to sit on and told Ahmed we were headed towards the pond near our home for a dinner picnic!
I’d have to say the three of us had such a wonderful time, sitting under a tree, enjoying the food Allah has blessed us with. It was so peaceful and relaxing. As women who are primarily at home we are the ones who need to take an initiative to make creative plans to keep life fun and exciting for the family without putting a hole in the pocket. So next time you want to kick it up a notch pack up dinner and head outdoors!
